Last 25-26 March 2015, Ms. Ma. Flordeliza P. Del Castillo of the Geomatics for Environment and Development program attended the Practical Application of the Earth Remote Sensing Technologies to Solve Social and Economic Challenges Workshop held in Moscow, Russia. This workshop delivered lectures on satellite data acquisition, processing for various applications and processed products storing and distribution. It also included a demonstration of optical and radar products processing and a group excursion at the Museum of Cosmonautics. The lectures and demonstrations were given by engineers and specialists from Research Center for Earth Operative Monitoring (NTsOMZ).

This workshop sends two messages. First, remote sensing technology provides important information that can be used for the benefit of society such as in disaster management and earth monitoring. Second, the increase in earth remote sensing data gathering devices increases the available data, which must be maximized to aid in making systematic and reasonable decisions for various applications.
