AQD Laboratory welcomes colleagues to the Manila Observatory, looks for points of collaboration

The Air Quality Dynamics laboratory welcomed guests from Clean Air Asia, PRC Ministry of Ecology and Environment, Peking University, and QC Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability Department on 10 April 2025. They went on a tour around the Manila Observatory grounds, looking at archives and the instruments we use to measure air quality.

Multiple colleagues also presented on different subjects in relation to air pollution.

Dr. Simpas discussed the AQD Lab’s various air pollution monitoring, speciation, and modeling activities. Dr. Mei Zheng, meanwhile, presented on the improvement of China’s air quality. She attributed this achievement to Beijing’s comprehensive air quality management program.  Lastly, Dr. Jicheng Gong underscored the relationships between air pollution, climate change, and health. He emphasized that the second leading risk factor for death worldwide is air pollution.  Hence, there is a need to focus on addressing these problems.

The visit concluded with a discussion on ways AQD and different stakeholders can collaborate in the future.

Thank you for the visit, Clean Air Asia, PRC Ministry of Ecology and Environment, Peking University, and QC Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability Department!
