A Meeting of Missions: Manila Observatory at the Fastenaktion Workshop

Written by Gab Mesina

From 24-26 March 2025, representatives from the Manila Observatory participated in the Fastenaktion Policy Influencing workshop held at the St. Michael Retreat House in Antipolo City. This event marks the beginning of a promising partnership between the Manila Observatory and Fastenaktion, a Swiss-based Catholic faith organization deeply committed to the vision of a just and sustainable world free from hunger.

Participants from the Manila Observatory engaged with a diverse network of community-based organizations that are part of the Philippines Country Programme under Fastenaktion. Community organizations, advocacy groups, and social action centers of dioceses were among the partners in attendance. These partners represent a wide spectrum of grassroots efforts all over the archipelago. The workshop provided a space for dialogue, collaboration, and the sharing of best practices and experiences.

In addition to policy and advocacy training, the final day of the workshop included practical sessions aimed at enhancing the communication skills of participants. Guest speakers led crash courses in photography and public speaking—equipping attendees with tools to more effectively get their points across to key stakeholders.

The experience fostered both learning and solidarity, and served as a meaningful step toward more collaborative and impactful climate action efforts in the Philippines.
