Jollibee Group Foundation engages with the Observatory for an overview on Climate Change

The Jollibee Group Foundation (JGF) and their local government partners headed by Executive Director Gisela Tiongson reached out to the Manila Observatory for an introduction to Climate Change to supplement their projects that aim to support farming communities that supply the food conglomerate’s raw ingredients.

Through the partnership with the National Resilience Council, JGF visited the Manila Observatory last 31 May 2019. The foundation along with their partners from the local government and farming communities in the provinces of Quezon and Negros Occidental toured the Observatory for an overview of its work and history.

Dr. Gemma Narisma, Executive Director of the Manila Observatory presented an overview of climate change and impacts, and the work of the Observatory in climate modeling and risk assessments. After the presentation the group engaged in a meaningful discussion about the shifts in agricultural practices observed in the two provinces as influenced by the changing climate.

JGF hopes that this engagement with the Observatory will only be the start of a journey in helping farming communities in adapting to a changing climate. The farmers also hope to develop more climate resilient practices to protect their livelihood. (YCLee)
