In response to the call for submissions of the third dialogue under the UAE Just Transition Work Program (UAE JTWP), the Manila Observatory through the Klima Center submitted a paper titled: “Adaptation-Centered Just Transition Pathways: A Mapping of Options for Understanding Just Transition in the Context of Adaptation”. Atty. Jayvy Gamboa, the Assistant Director for Policy and Governance of Klima, authored the paper following the call’s theme of “Approaches to enhancing adaptation and climate resilience in the context of just transitions”
The short submission presents different adaptation pathways and how just transition can be framed within each pathway. The paper had mapped five adaptation centered Just Transition pathways on their ambition and integration spectrums. Ambition refers to achieving the Paris Agreement’s goals while integration indicates the pathway’s holistic approach to both mitigation and adaptation.
The submission presents prioritizing of transition options or strategies with both mitigation and adaptation synergies and co-benefits as a key consideration for just transition in climate vulnerable developing countries.
