The WCRP Academy Support Unit officially launched at the Manila Observatory on 7 October 2024, marking the first WCRP support office in the Global South. The event highlighted the Academy’s mission to promote climate science training and action, with a focus on the impacts of climate change in vulnerable regions.
The launch event was attended by key figures from the WCRP and Manila Observatory, including Fr. Jose Ramon T. Villarin SJ, Executive Director of the Manila Observatory, and Atty. Antonio Gabriel M. La Viña, who discussed the link between climate science and policy. WCRP representatives, such as Dr. Narelle van der Wel, Drs. Melissa Hart and Christopher Lennard, as well as Dr. Ma Laurice Jamero, also participated, sharing insights into the Academy’s goals and future plans.
