Light Cavalry was written by Horacio de la Costa, S.J. when he was twenty-two years old, a Jesuit Scholastic, at the Ateneo de Manila, on Padre Faura.

Light Cavalry is the Society of Jesus, as Horacio de la Costa saw it, at that time.

The book was scheduled for release during the Christmas season of 1941. But on December 8, 1941, bombs began to fall on Manila and most of the copies of the book were burned.

It was finally released in September 1997 by the Catholic Bishop's Conference of the Philippines through the National Office of the Media. After fifty-six years of delay!
