Instrumentation and Technology Development

Up one level: Research Programs

The Instrumentation and Technology (ITD) program aims to develop local instruments and technologies needed to sustain environmental monitoring and research in the country.

Most of the instruments currently being built are for atmospheric and climate monitoring. Such instruments include automated meteorological systems, as well as aerosol and gaseous pollutant detectors.

Local technologies are likewise being developed for alternative energy and transport systems (in partnership with the Ateneo de Manila University), real-time webcasting of air quality and weather/climate information, and scientific visualization.

The program prioritizes the harnessing of local expertise and resources in the development of these devices for scientific investigation and environmental remediation.

Current projects under this program include:

  • Development of DOAS system to monitor criteria and toxic air pollutants
  • Optical PM monitor
  • Tunable diode laser detector for ambient methane
  • Scanning Mie LIDAR for aerosol profiling
  • Automated meteorological systems
  • Small-scale wind turbine systems
  • Hybrid transport systems
