IRIACC COASTAL MEGACITIES AT RISK PROJECT
Job Description
Together with the project’s Risk Communication Specialist, works on climate change and disaster risk communication-related research, and support internal communications in the international team, and is mainly responsible for:
- Maintaining and updating the website for the Manila team of the project which involve:
- preparing and uploading new content, incorporating social networking strategies into the website (as appropriate), and linking to the project websites of the Canada, Bangkok and Lagos teams (as needed)
- as the Manila Network Manager, responsible for coordinating with the network managers of the other project teams in developing a uniform platform for information sharing, abiding by the guidelines set by the overall principal investigators and the funding agency.
- Formulating recommendations regarding the presentation and packaging of information on the website and effective methods of online communication; and, participating regularly in certain project meetings on milestones and updates.
- Overseeing communications with the different stakeholders involved in the project, including media outlets. This will also involve producing outreach materials (both online and offline) for targeted stakeholders, and holding results validation and dissemination activities.
- Assisting the Risk Communication Specialist with project tasks associated with:
- Strategy development for reconciling the science/risk communication with stakeholders' understanding and perceptions
- Strategy development for improving the communication chain leading to decision-making and response
- Writing associated reports/papers
Requirements/Qualifications
- Graduate of a communications, information design, developmental studies, governance, environmental management course, or any related course with competencies in website development
- Graduates of computer science or MIS with competencies in communications may also be considered
- Fresh graduates encouraged; Masters students preferred but not required
- Strong people skills and a team player
- Keen interest in environment, weather, climate and disaster risk reduction and management
