Research Laboratory Manager

The MANILA OBSERVATORY is a Jesuit scientific research institution with research work in the fields of atmospheric and earth science in the Philippines and the Southeast Asian region. It advocates a science-based approach to sustainable development and poverty reduction through its principal focus on the areas of climate change and disaster science.

Research Laboratory: Air Quality Dynamics & Instrumentation and Technology Development (AQD- ITD)
Position: Research Laboratory Manager
Report to: AQD-ITD Laboratory Head

 
 

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the Head of the AQD- ITD Laboratory in the management of the day-to-day operations of the AQD-ITD Laboratory Projects, ensuring smooth implementation of activities according to the MO’s administrative policies and procedures, and with the approved Agreement with the funders
  • Provide technical and administrative support to the AQD-ITD Laboratory which include planning aspects of research, financial, staffing, and management of the laboratory equipment, including purchase of new equipment
  • Coordinate with the research staff in the execution of their functions and delivery of their outputs, including review and recommending approval of all outputs and reports
  • Collaborate with research staff on manuscripts, abstracts and other publications of research findings
  • Manage project reporting requirements
  • Conduct regular monitoring and evaluation of project activities
  • Prepare progress and end of project reports
  • Attend meetings, conferences, workshops, and the like as applicable
  • Initiate or assist in the development of at least two (2) project proposals in consonance with AQD-ITD Laboratory’s research agenda
 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science/ Related Fields; Master’s degree is an advantage
  • Knowledgeable in project management
  • At least two (2) years of experience in research and/or project management with good decision making and analytical thinking skills
  • Knowledgeable in computer office applications (presentation preparation, spreadsheets, MS word)
  • Works well with a team with good organizational and interpersonal skills
